The 21st Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre

The Experimental Theatre Festival features new theatre troupes taking over the Cairo Opera House.

The embassy of Egypt in Romania has announced the organization of The International Festival for Experimental Theatre from Cairo, which takes place every year. This year the festival was in the period 10th-20th October 2009 in Cairo, Egypt.

The Ministry of Culture of Egypt has provided the accommodation and the local transport for one theatre troup from a country designated to participate at the festival. After many debates, The Oriental Cultural Center in collaboration with The European Education Culture Centre “Artemis” have been chosen and designed to represent Romania with the performance “Underground”.

The schedule of the festival included the experimental theatre contest, a book exposition and a series of seminars with the theme of experimental theatre.

The International Jury watched during the period from the 10th to the 20th of October 2009 a number of performances that amounted to (26) presented by various groups representing (21) countries taking part in the official contest of the festival.
The Jury of the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre was composed as follows:

4. Hasan Ateya - Egypt

5. Rosemary Quinn – U.S.A

7. Francoise Brion - France

10. Larry Tremblay - Canada

11. Mohamed El Mongy Bin Ibrahim - Tunisia

The jury granted awards for:

Award for Best Performance – Macbeth presented by Jaranda project - South Korea

Award for best Directing – Osama Halal Director of Don Quixote presented by Koon

Theater Group Syria

Award for best Actress – Boshra Ismail for her role in Echo presented by National

Acting Group Iraq

Award for best Actor – Mohamed Fahim for his role in I am Hamlet Presented by

Artistic Creativity Center - Cultural Development Fund-Egypt

Award for best Scenography – Façade performance Presented by Bialostocki Teatr

Lalek Poland

Award for best Ensemble – The Houses of Bernarda Alba Presented by Compania de

Teatro del Espacio Cultural  Metropolitano Mexico
