Global Arab Network – Prime Minister Essam Sharaf received Italian Ambassador in Cairo Claudio Pacifico for talks on the distinguished relations between Egypt and Italy both at the bilateral level and within the European Union.
Sharaf reiterated Egypt’s keenness on fostering economic relations with Italy through increasing the volume of trade exchange and encouraging Italian investments and tourism in Egypt, in light of the Egyptian government’s efforts to push the wheel of economy.
The prime minister’s Media Advisor Ahmed el-Samman said that Sharaf pointed out that Egypt was keen, during its participation in the G8 summit in Deauville, France, to underline its aspiration to more cooperation with friendly countries to attain democratic transition in an appropriate way and to revive economic growth that contributes to the process of modernization, development and job creation for the Egyptian youth.
Pacifico, for his part, underlined the depth of Egyptian-Italian relations and his country’s support for Egypt’s demands during the G8 summit and any other demands in the meetings of the G20.
Premier Sharaf is expected in Rome on Thursday 2/6/2011 to take part in Italy’s National Day celebrations.
In the same context, Finance Minister Samir Radwan discussed with the Italian Ambassador procedures for signing the agreement on the swap of the second tranche of Egypt’s debts to Italian and using it to finance development projects. The agreement is expected to be signed soon.
Radwan stressed the depth of friendship and cooperation between Egypt and Italy at all levels, pointing out that his meeting with the Italian Ambassador touched on a number of issues, including the use of Italian expertise in promoting small- and medium-size enterprises.
The Egyptian government has given a nod to the Italian initiative to provide the necessary technical support to the police, especially in the field of training.
The minister said that Egypt is witnessing a tremendous progress concerning security and restoring stability in the street. Radwan further stressed that security and stability remain a top priority of the government at the current stage.
For his part, Pacifico underlined his country’s support for Egypt and its economy and that Italian investment projects are operating in Egypt. He referred to the experience of the Bank of Alexandria as successful partnership between the two countries.
He also noted that Italian tourism companies plan to significantly increase the flow of tourists to Egypt and boost their activities in the Egyptian market after the January 25 Revolution.
